In You
I live,
held
within the mystery
of Your being.
Every breath
is borrowed from You.
Every heartbeat
moves beneath
the gaze of Love.
I walk through this world
and yet I never leave You.
I search for You
as though You were distant,
while all the while
I am moving
within You.
Where could I go
that Your presence
does not already fill?
What darkness
could hide me
from the Light
in which I exist?
I am dust,
and You are the breath
that gives dust a soul.
I am nothing
without the One
who continually speaks
the word of my existence.
And still,
You do not merely
keep me alive.
You invite me deeper.
Into the hidden chamber
where creature and Creator
meet without words.
Into the silence
where I discover
that my longing for You
is already Your longing
within me.
In You
I live.
In You
I move.
In You
I have my being.
And perhaps
the deepest prayer
is simply
to stop reaching
for the God
who is everywhere,
and become still enough
to discover
I have never
been outside
Your embrace.
