The Space Between

image created with AI

I have tried to follow Your light
with eyes that fail to see clearly.

I have called my own voice
Your whisper,
and walked roads
I thought You had given me.

Then I found myself lost.

And I wonder
if You saw the trying
or only the wandering.

But perhaps You see deeper.

Perhaps You see
the small, trembling yes
beneath my failure,
the longing beneath my confusion,
the heart that keeps turning
even when it cannot find the way.

Peter denied You
and You came looking for him.

You did not ask,
“Why did you fail?”

You asked,
“Do you love me?”

Perhaps that is Your question
still echoing through the dark.

And I answer,
“Yes, Lord.
Even here.
Even in my failure.
Even when I have missed the mark.”

I pray You take my imperfect heart
and lead it,
me,
home.

  1. Your words capture that tender place between failure and love—the space where we’re not sure we’ve followed well, yet we still turn toward Jesus. I appreciate how you name the trembling yes beneath the confusion. Peter’s story is the perfect reminder: Jesus meets us not with accusation but with the question that matters most. Your prayer at the end feels honest and hopeful, trusting Him to lead you home even from the lost places.
