When we build bridges, we begin with a willingness to believe the other side is worth reaching.
We gather what we have our courage, our questions, our trembling hope, and the small stones of kindness we have carried through the years.
Sometimes the bridge is a word offered gently when anger would be easier. Sometimes it is silence, the kind that listens without preparing a defense. Sometimes it is forgiveness, not forgetting what has happened, but choosing not to let it be the final word.
God of the spaces between us, teach us to build with humble hands. Remind us that we do not always know the weight another soul is carrying, the storms that shaped their journey, or the wounds hidden beneath their words.
Keep us from building bridges just to prove that we are right. Keep us from mistaking agreement for peace or distance for safety. Give us the wisdom to know when to reach across, when to wait, and when a bridge must be built one patient plank at a time.
May we be brave enough to begin, gentle enough to keep going, and gracious enough to meet another human being halfway.
For every bridge we build makes room for a different story, a softened heart, a new beginning.
And perhaps this is how the world is slowly healed, not all at once, not by one grand gesture, but by ordinary people choosing, again and again, to make a way toward one another.
So let our lives become bridges, rooted in truth, held together by compassion, and reaching toward a love greater than our differences.
And when we reach the other side, may we discover that grace was waiting there all along, quietly reminding us that the distance between us was never beyond the reach of love.
