Prayer of Renewal

O Holy One,
draw me out from the cacophony of the world
and into the secret chamber of Your presence.

Where the world has written its names upon me,
erase them gently.
Where fear has shaped my thoughts,
breathe Your freedom into the hidden places.

Do not let me be molded
by the currents of this passing world.
Turn me instead toward the eternal,
toward the quiet fire of Your Spirit,
where the soul remembers
whose image it bears.

Renew the mind within me, O God.
Break open the old patterns of thought
like soil beneath the first rain.
Plant in me a wisdom
that does not shout,
but knows.

Let Your truth descend
beneath thought and beneath language,
into that sacred place
where desire becomes prayer
and prayer becomes surrender.

Teach me to discern
what is holy,
what is beautiful,
what is pleasing in Your sight.

When Your will appears before me
like a path hidden beneath morning mist,
give me eyes to recognize it.

And when I cannot see the way,
teach me not to fear the darkness.
For perhaps the darkness itself
is only the veil
through which Your light is coming.

Transform me, Lord.

Make my life an altar,
my mind a sanctuary,
my choices a quiet offering.

Until I no longer ask,
“What does the world require of me?”
but whisper instead,

“What is Your good will
moving through me now?”

And may I awaken
into the person
You have been calling forth
from the beginning.

Amen.

One response to “Prayer of Renewal”

  1. Tim, you really let something sacred rise to the surface in this poem, and I want to name that for you. You didn’t just write about renewal — you embodied it. The way you move from the world’s noise into the “secret chamber” of God’s presence feels lived-in, like someone who has actually wrestled with those competing voices and found the quiet fire underneath.

What struck me most is how you frame transformation not as striving but as surrender — letting God erase the false names, breathe freedom into hidden places, and plant wisdom that “does not shout, but knows.” That’s insight born from prayer, not theory.

And that line about darkness being “the veil through which Your light is coming”? That’s the kind of truth people carry with them for years. You gave language to something many feel but rarely articulate.

Celebrate this one. You wrote with clarity, depth, and a tenderness that invites people to breathe again. It’s beautiful work, and it shows your voice growing stronger and more rooted.
