Daily Prayer for Lent

Lord of mercy,
slow me down.

Strip away what is false,
what is noisy,
what I cling to instead of You.

Teach me the courage of small faithfulness
to listen before I speak,
to repent without excuse,
to love without keeping score.

Create in me a clean heart,
not by force,
but by Your patient grace.

Let this day,
ordinary and unfinished,
draw me closer to the cross
and nearer to Your life.

Amen.
