Prayerfully Poetic

A Collection of Prayerful Poems by Tim McGee

I will leave it all

I want to leave it all
the careful keeping,
the small cache of certainty
the names I give to fear
so I can pretend it belongs to me

I want to leave it all
to love

Not the soft word I use
when I mean comfort
but the love that made
the first bird lift its chest into air
without asking permission

That is
to leave it all
to Him who is love
the one who does not hurry me
who waits the way morning waits
for the field to open its eyes

I have watched the stream
give itself away
without regret
and the wildflowers
bow under the weight
of their own beauty
and call it obedience

So perhaps this is faith
to loosen my grip
to let my life be spent
like sunlight on water
wasted only by those
who do not know
how generous the day is

I will leave it all
my striving
my plans
even my understanding
to the Author of life and beauty
who has never once
asked me to be more
than what I was made to be

beloved
and willing

How fitting as we near Lent. The images and words weave a beautiful tapestry. Thank you for sharing the Spirit’s movement.

  3. Beautiful, as always, my friend. I’m quoting this one to my readers at Substack. Just their cup of tea!
