Prayerfully Poetic

A Collection of Prayerful Poems by Tim McGee

To Hear His Voice

The morning rain falls soft and slow
A breeze through autumn’s leaves does blow
The sunrise stills the waking land
All fashioned by the Maker’s hand

Within such calm His voice is near
A whisper only hearts can hear
In beauty silence depth and grace
He shows His love reveals His face

But in the noise I strain to find
The sacred voice that calms the mind
The world is loud my soul is worn
I seek the peace for which I’m born

The storm clouds blur my weary eyes
And louder still the clamor cries
I cannot feel I cannot see
Unless Your Spirit quickens me

Yet still my heart can hear and know
The One who speaks through winds that blow
Through thorn-crowned cross and empty tomb
Through love that cuts through every gloom

O Lord create in me anew
A heart made soft and pure and true
Remove this stone that will not feel
Replace it with a heart that kneels

Your Word O God let it remain
A lamp through loss a balm through pain
Though chaos roars and shadows press
Your voice shall be my wilderness

I seek You now who sought me first
The only One who quenched my thirst
Grant me O Lord the ears to hear
Your whisper drawing ever near
