Prayerfully Poetic

A Collection of Prayerful Poems by Tim McGee

My Revelation

The revelation given to me,
a witness in the square,
as I stood as one among thousands,
the multitude drawn as by the breath of the Spirit.

And I, a pilgrim,
took my place beside a pillar of stone,
watchful, praying, awaiting the sign.

My wife was among the throng,
caught in the river of humanity,
as crimson-clad men entered the sacred hall,
veiled from mortal eyes,
to seek not their own will
but the voice of the Holy Spirit.

And I beheld a chimney,
humble and small,
yet from it would rise smoke
to signify the will of heaven.

I had thought to find a gathering
of like-minded hearts,
united in doctrine and name,
but lo, the Lord showed me a greater mystery.

For as I waited, I beheld a multitude
from every people and path,
some of faith and some of no creed,
yet all drawn to the Light.

I saw hands clasped in prayer,
fingers caressing beads,
(some known to me, others strange)
songs rose like incense,
seagulls cried as heralds in the sky,
and the air was filled with expectation.

And I knew:
They were all there, waiting with Christ,
whether they knew His name or not,
for He was in their midst,
in the light, and as the Light.

Then I heard as if from heaven,
a voice like rushing waters saying:

“Be still and know that I Am God.”

And I fell silent,
for the peace was great,
and the moment, holy.
