Why so Downcast, O My Soul (PS42)

In the veiled morning light, shadows come and go, Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul.
Walkin’ this lonely road, ain’t got no home, I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul,
Got them 42 Blues deep down in my soul,
I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

Troubles on my back, feelin’ like a stone, Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul.
Lost in the night, searchin’ for the morn’, I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul,
Got them 42 Blues deep down in my soul,
I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

Got them 42 Blues deep down in my soul,
Everyday they’re taking a toll.
Tears fallin’ down, like a heavy rain,
In this stormy life, I’ve known so much pain,
But in the darkest hour, I see His light,
Guidin’ me home, through the longest night.

Every step’s a burden, feel it in my bones, Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul.
Seekin’ out His mercy, kneelin’ at His throne, I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul,
Got them 42 Blues deep down in my soul,
I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

He lifts the weary, makes the broken whole, Why are you downcast, O my soul, O my soul.
In His love and grace, I find my home,
I thirst for God alone, where else can I go?

No longer downcast, O my soul, O my soul,
Freed from the 42 Blues deep down in my soul,
Jesus quenches my thirst, that’s where I’ll go.
